Video clips originally for language learners, but also anyone else interested in language use - especially in the Hebrides, though not exclusively so. For more information please pay a visit to the "Fiosrachadh - Information" page below. Perhaps you have some suggestions, or would like to take part? We're open to contributions in any language... You can also follow us on Facebook or Twitter.
In the great majority of cases we have not burned subtitles into our videos, but "wordlinked" transcripts are generally available via Clilstore links on our Wordpress site ("Fiosrachadh - Information"). These aim to give one-click translations of any unknown words.
We're also pleased to have contributed to developments for Automatic Speech Recognition in Gaelic. This has stimulated experimentation with the optional Closed Caption facility to generate same language subtitles of Series One and Two and other films. Where activated, auto-translation into other languages also becomes available.

Gaelic writer and Edinburgh resident Martin MacIntyre talks to Gordon Wells. In Part 1, Martin outlines his island connections to Benbecula, South Uist, and Barra, reeling off a sloinneadh of impressive length that traces his genealogical roots on his father’s side as far back as the late 17th century. Gaelic writer and Edinburgh resident Martin MacIntyre talks to Gordon Wells. In Part 4, still discussing Gaelic’s minority status in Edinburgh, Martin suggests the evident multicultural milieu may in some ways and in some situations make it comparatively easy to mount Gaelic events, while also noting that he perceives a move towards more specifically Gaelic activities among Gaelic communities. ...

ウチナーグチはどうでしょうか? ruclips.net/video/WR1XxF2hrmQ/видео.html

One of the most enlightened discussion I have heard in a while.
I speak English because English-speakers came to my country and shot my ancestors. The same happened to Ireland. I don't know my ancestral language. That's why I'm proud to hear you guys speak yours.
"chuir mé buicéad faofa" is breá an rud an tsean-Ghaeilge a chloisteáil
Tá aithne mhaith agam ar na daoine a labhraíonn sé fúthu - as Leacach/Turlach Mór dom féin. B'as an Móinteach mo shinsin-seanmháthair thiar ag tús an 19ú céad, agus bhí Gaeilge ó dhúchas ag mo sheanmháthair agus seanathair ar thaobh m'athar - tháinig mo mhamó ó Leithcheathrú Mhór i mBaile Chláir na Gaillimhe. Bhí Gaeilge ag deartháir agus deirfiúr mo mhamó ar thaobh mo mháthar sa Chaisleán Gearr, ach nílim lánchinnte faoi mháthair mo mháthar óir rugadh ise timpeall na bliana 1900.
Great to learn Scottish especially with the text

Very labour intensive.
Is he a native speaker
"So, mar sin, broinn an taighe, ’s e a’ Ghàidhlig a bha a’ dol. A-muigh - diofraichte, gu tur eadar-dhealaichte. Bha mar gum biodh - chanainn-sa gun robh deichnear de Thormodan timcheall an uair ud. Bu chòir dhomh Sybil a chur orm mar ainm - multiple personality. Bha cainnt nan gangsters, an fheadhainn a bha a’ cluich còmhla rium. Bha sin agam. Bha a’ Ghàidhlig agam a-staigh. Bhithinn ag atharrais air cainnt nan Leòdhasach bho chailleach “Miff”. Agus nuair a chaidh mi dhan sgoil ann an Glaschu, chanainn-sa gun robh modified demotic Glaswegian agam airson nan tidsearan. Mar a thuirt mi, ’s e multiple personality a bh’ annam." "So, at home it was Gaelic. Outside - different, completely different. It was like - I'd say there were ten Normans around that time. I should call myself Sybil - multiple personality. I had the speech of the gangsters, the ones who played with me. I had that. I had Gaelic at home. I would copy the Lewis speech from old woman "Miff". And when I went to school in Glasgow, I'd say I had modified demotic Glaswegian for the teachers. As I said, I was a multiple personality."
Ma bhruinneadh gach Gàidheal mar Christine, bhithinn glè, glè thoilichte, tha am fuaimneachadh ace cho soilleir cho brèagha agus tha mi a' tuigsinn cha mhòr gach facal, cha mhòr nach fheum mi tar-sgrìobhadh.😊Co-dhiù, mile taing, tha tar-sgrìobhadh no fo-thiotalan Gàidhlig glè fheumail airson mòran bhidiothan eile.👍
Bha siud cho brèagha is cho inntinneach. Taing mhor Guthan nan Eilean.
Tha Gordon Wells ag ràdh "Na daoine aig a bheil Gàidhlig as fheàrr, air a bheil mi fhèin eòlach. cha bhi iad ga leighadh no ga sgrìobhadh idir." Nach eil Wells eòlach air Ruaridh MacIlleathain?? 'S e craoladair, neach-naidheachd, sgriobhadair, neach-teagaisg air leth math, uabhasach math a th'ann, duine a tha cho measail air dualchas agus dùthchas nan Gàidheal. Cha b'urrainn dhomh innse ciamar a tha mi taingeil dha airson "Litir do luchd-ionnsachaidh" aige. 'S e fìor ionmhas a th'ann. Tha an litir seo a toirt tlachd uabhasach mòr dham inntinn. Mura fuirichinn cho fada air falbh bho Alba, thiginn dìreach airson air làimh a bhreith air a chèile.
Gu dearbh fhèin, tha. Bha Ruairidh againn ann an Sreath a h-Aon, nuair a thòisich Guthan nan Eilean a-mach ochd bliadhna deug air ais: ruclips.net/video/vTH7hzGVh84/видео.html :-) Duine air leth a th' ann an Ruairidh, gun teagamh sam bith. Gu math cuideachail do luchd-ionnsachaidh, agus aig an aon àm ag aithneachadh cho cudromach is a tha eileanan mar Uibhist a Deas - "Chan eil, 's dòcha, àite nas Gàidhealaiche ann an Alba an-diugh na seo" - far a bheil Gàidhlig ga bruidhinn sa choimhearsnachd gu nàdarra. Chan eil sin idir ri ràdh, ge-tà, gu bheil daoine cheart cho measail air a bhith ga leughadh no ga sgrìobhadh.
Feumaidh mi eadar-theangachadh a dhèanamh a-nis airson an teaghlach Mhic Mhuirich agam aig nach eil Gàidhlig
Sgoinneil fhèin.
Tha seo air leth inntinneach - tapadh leibh!
Gle mhath tha e Uabhasach cudromach a bruidhin ghaidhlig gach latha @
Mòran taing, glè ùidheachail

'S toil leam na bhideothan seo gu mòr. Tha iad uabhasach inntinneach - tapadh leibh airson postadh.
Tha gaol agam air "Red Star of the Hebrides: "
Fascinating against all odds such wisdom is forged
Mòran taing ❤
Thuirt Tormoid gun deach athair a dh' obair còmhla ri MacAmhlaidh Mòr (Seonaidh Westford) ann an Cladach Chirceabost. Nuair a bha i glè òg, chaidh mo mhàthair Jane Ferguson (Sìneag Eoghainn Ic Sheumais) a dh' obair còmhla ri MacAmhlaidh cuideachd. Ron a sin, chaidh mo mhàthair dhan Sgoil Chladach Chirceabost còmhla ri nigheanan MacAmhlaidh, Màiri 's Magaidh. 'S e saoghal beag a th’ ann!
Thanks for sharing it, Gordon.
I well remember Céit Eairdsidh and was often in her house, because she managed the Howmore youth hostel on behalf of the Gatliffe Trust. It was indeed Iain Nìll Duinn who used to renew the thatch on the hostel - I have a photo of him doing it; also a photo of Céit Eairdsidh with Betty and Nora Mannion (a friend visiting from Glasgow) down by the Clachan Mór. Céit was always so warm and welcoming, and Aonghus Eairdsidh once told me he would look the other way if I wanted to bring a fishing-rod next time I was in Uist. (I didn't of course - though I often saw fish worth catching.) I sometimes stayed for some weeks in the hostel, and it was a huge privilege to get to know some of the people. Thanks for posting this -- it brings back some wonderful memories!
Tha na clàraidhean seo iongantach. Mar neach-ionnsachaidh na Gàidhlig, tha iad a’ còrdadh rium gu mòr. Mòran taing gu dearbh!
Cén chanúint atá aici?
Mar a tha i ag ràdh, chaidh a togail ann am Beinn na Faoghla, agus tha i a' fuireach ann an Uibhist a Deas.

Excellent one
बहुत बहुत महत्वपूर्ण कार्य। अतिप्रशंनीय। हार्दिक अभिनंदन आदरणीय नचिकेता सर ।👏🏻
No disrespect intended as there is a lot of misinformation out there. I don't know if this guy is in Scotland or not, but by the way Trump is portrayed by the media, it's easy to see how someone outside of America would have this opinion. The fact is that the vast majority of people in lower class society in u.s. usually vote Democrat so that they can take advantage of our welfare system. Trump is also totally fine with immigration as long as it's legal. It's not so much the hard working Hispanic families coming over for a better life. The problem is the drug cartels and human traffickers that come here from many countries besides Mexico. You can't trust any mainstream news outlet here, they twist the narrative too much. A lot of independent journalists are taking to RUclips to film things as they are and this is probably one of the better sources to get your news. The U.S. has a legitimate border security issue and Trump actually took action to improve it. It's only gotten worse under Biden, it doesn't have anything to do with languages. Again no disrespect, as I actually really appreciate these videos as I am learning Scottish Gaelic myself. Just felt the need to clear up a couple things.
Thank you. Always useful to hear different sides of an argument, though perhaps algorithmically driven selectivity in the social media age may tend to narrow rather than broaden perspectives... For context - and with equal respect - this recording was made in 2016, running up to Mac Mhàiri Chaluim reportedly securing 2.8M fewer of the popular vote than his then rival. (In 2020 he fell short by 7M.) So, misinformed or not, negative views of him evidently are not just held outside America... Anyway, be that as it may, the primary interest of this channel is indeed linguistic, not political. This clip was produced with the aim of stimulating debate about bilingualism between language theorists and language users. Further comment on this aspect is welcome, but current electoral commentary should probably directed elsewhere. The full discussion is available here: ruclips.net/video/ObJ-c1MT0Xs/видео.html
